Continuation of making the Christmas puppy with lantern.
Step 21* First of all highlight the 'Body' layer, if you are sure that it is the way you want it, convert to Raster. Go to Selections....Select All and Float.
Step 22 * Grab the airbrush
with settings below and choose a dark colour for the foreground...I used #84422E...spray evenly all over the body...deselect.

Step 23* Go to Effects...Plugin Filters and EC 4 Jiggle...choose my Xmas doggy preset...unless you want to make a different effect of course.
Save!
Step 24-30* Repeat these steps for every one of the furry body parts in exactly the same way. When finished you should have done the body....head....legs....tail and the ear.
Save!
** Below are some of the settings that I used to give you an idea...please bear in mind though that I change mine so often...reducing or increasing size, opacity, hardness until I find the effect that I need.....it is hoped that you will do the same...if I included screen captures are even just the settings for every move I make...the tute would never be finished. The whole idea is to teach you to not only use all of these tools but for you to learn by experimenting yourselves....life wasn't meant to be easy. *s*

So with all that in mind and no further ado...on with the show! LOL
Step 31* Make the mouth layer active...convert to raster then grab the Retouch tool
...and select 'Push' with the settings above....very carefully push along the line especially at the ends and shape the mouth a bit more. I also used the lighten, darken, smudge, soften tools with small size brush for areas such as corners of the mouth, highlights, shadows etc...you can of course just leave the mouth as it is. I always vary the size of brushes and settings that I use to suit the area and this goes for the opacity etc...just play around until you find what suits you.
Save!
Step 32* Make the nose layer active and make sure you have the shape that you want and that it is in the correct position...convert to raster layer. I didn't use an inner bevel for this.....just used the combination of tools again...the lighten brush for the highlighted areas and darken brush for the very dark areas, naturally...soften brush occasionally. See pic below step 33.
Step 33* Repeat the last two steps for the eyes too...if you use these tools instead of an inner bevel, you have more control on how you want it to look.
Save!
Step 34* Now to shade the head to give it some depth etc...make the head layer active and using all the tools mentioned in the last few steps...draw in some shadows, creases, wrinkles, whatever you choose to call them, with the 'darken tool', ...instead of using the 'Drop Shadow feature, you will be creating your own....'make that pup come alive. *s* Once you have done those, use the 'soften' tool on the areas where the shadows will not be so severe...a much more realistic way of doing them. Keep alternating your settings in the way an artist would reach for the appropriate brushes for different areas. You don't have to get it perfect straight away as you can do some finishing touches to the whole thing when everything else is completed.
Step 35* Make the head layer active...Selections...Select All.....Float. Add a new raster layer, naming it 'shading'. Using the airbrush
with the same setting as you used before but changing the size down to 20.....spray around the mouth eyes, ears and neck...more in some areas...less in others...change the size down again to about a 3...this is to make the eyebrows and thin creases around the eyes. Go to Effects...Blur...Gaussian Blur and choose around 1.80. Then lower the opacity of this layer to about 67. I finished off by using the darken and lighten brushes to define some areas a little more. See him coming alive? *s*
Step 36* Make the body layer active...Selections...select all...float and add another raster layer. Grab the airbrush
again with same settings and size 20...dark colour that you used before... spray around the legs etc where there will be dark shadows...for the finer lines changed down to size 3 as before. Add a Gaussian Blur and lower opacity to 67 as before. Use the smudge tool to blend in and fluff up the fur.
Save!
Step 37* Make one of the front legs active and grab the lasso to remove the top part of the line and a little bit of the sides too...we want it to blend in with the body. Select all and Float then add a new raster layer. With the airbrush
, again with same settings and size 20...dark colour that you used before... spray around the inside of the legs to give muscle definition etc. Change down to a size 3 to define the toe's etc. Add a Gaussian blur and lower opacity down to 67. Repeat these steps for the other front leg and also the two back legs...you will only need to remove part of the line at the top of the left back leg but you don't have to worry about the back leg under the body...except for the shading....you must do that however.
Save!
Step38* With the body layer your active layer but not selected.....touch up around the edges alternating with the softening and smudging brushes.....we want to get rid of the obvious jiggled look. Then use the smudge brush for inside the body taken special care to blend in the legs etc.
Step 39* Keeping the body selected...add a new layer and give your puppy a necklace of holly etc...you can make your own if you wish...but being that this was so involved, I cheated and used a combination of a holly and a bell tube.
Save!
Step 40* Make the claws layer active and make sure they are where you want them on the paws...I used the lighten and darken brush to give them depth. Duplicate your image and delete both the layer 1 and hat layer.... merge visible. This gives you the puppy without a hat as well as with....so that you can use him for all occasions. *s*
Save!
Step 41* Go back to the original psp image and make the hat the active layer...convert to raster layer. Grab the lasso tool and with point to point...select around the pom pom area...expand by 5....add a new raster layer and flood fill with white. Keeping selected, spray a little of the colour of your hat very lightly inside this selection...then use the jiggle setting that you used previously but lower the bubble size down to 5.15. Now you have a cute little pom pom.
Step 42* Do the same thing for the band around the hat....you may have to soften around the edges of the band. Next use the darken and lighten brushes to make the creases and highlights on the coloured part of the hat...look over the complete image and soften edges, blend etc until you are satisfied with it....though if you are anything like me...you will add and change until you mess it up. *grrr*
Step 43* You can leave it like this....OR....add a lantern to it. If you wish to tube him without the lantern too, follow the steps in step 40* for doing this. Now place the lantern over the mouth and using the lasso tool on point to point or the eraser tool...get rid of the top part of the ring very carefully, so it looks as though the pup is holding the ring in its mouth...like below.
Now isn't he so cute? Yeah? Just don't ask me what breed he is....it looks like a multi-cross breed to me. *g* I also decided to do one with a tail and one without...or at least, not shown. *s* Duplicate your image and then merge layers visible and tube it. Save your original image in it's layers in your psp file folder.
This is another one that I did from the saved vector shape...he's a 'snow dog'. *s* I merged the head and hat.....then rotated to a different position...he's another cutie too....ummm...could be a girl though...just didn't look when I was making, ummm, it! *g*
**I wish to thank both Hannah Clements and Sharron Austin for testing out this tutorial for me at such short notice and for doing such an expert job on putting me right in places. *s* Though I did expect a lot more mistakes, given the speed that I put this together...my eyes are still crossed from doing this. Thanks Cobbers! (buddies...friends...amigos...pals) ((((Big Hugs))))
Have Fun! and Email if you have any problems!
