This is the first tutorial that I have ever made and it came about because a few people were asking how I did my plaids...I had only ever been sent the instructions on how to do these, in an email from the founder of a group that I was in at that time. So to make it easier on those interested friends, who couldn't quite grasp the method... and, of course, to save having to keep sending out the information...I decided to try to put together a tutorial for them.....I am not credited with creating these methods on how to make plaids...only for the putting together of this tutorial.
You will need:
PSP
(I used version 7 but should be easy to do in 5 or 6)
The Simple and Video Rave filters were designed by two very talented men who work hard to make our graphic creating a lot easier. Instructions for installing these filters are at the site....as I said before they really make things easy for us. You need to download these two filters from the above sites, in order to make these plaids...unless you have them already sitting in your Plugins folder. ;o)
I have tried to consider the 'newbies' who are just starting out in PSP and hope that I have achieved this. These plaids can be made in any version of PSP...and are so simple to make (really, I kid you not) good news, huh?... :o)
Now we will proceed to teach you how to create your own plaids. The plaid, pictured below, is the result that we want to achieve from my chosen photo.

The photo I have chosen is one of my holiday photos, a picture that I took of a model of novelist Catherine Cookson's family home. Has she gone mad? I hear you ask....no! you can use anything that grabs your fancy. Turn your ugly mother-in-law into something pretty and get rid of your negative feelings about her....you have a lot more to gain by turning her into a plaid rather than a toad! :o)
First of all you will need some things before we get started on this project.
A picture of your choice, which can be anything you like....as long as it is a square. If you choose one that is not, then go to Image-Resize and uncheck maintain ratio, change the size, or use Canvas size. I make mine 100 by 100 but you can make them bigger if you wish. If you want to you can use the picture that I am using to get you started....just right click and save to your hard drive.
Are you ready? .....Then let's go!
Open up your choice of photo in PSP and resize if necessary. Go to 'Effects'....'Plugins' and then Video Rave....select 'Streamer' and choose these settings if you are using my pic. If you have chosen something else, play around with the settings until you get the effect you like.....Great! that's the hardest part over with.

Still with me? Good....I knew you'd have fun!
Now go back to 'Effects'...'Plugins'...Simple....Diamonds....you don't have to fiddle around with anything here....that's why it is called simple! ;o)

now go back to Simple and choose 4 Way Average....and guess what?
YOU'RE FINISHED!
BRAVO...SUPERB!
For a slightly different look using the same pic....I decided to experiment and got this effect below...why not try adding the 'Diamond' step before and after the 'Streamer' step as I did....settings Pan Wheel 179 and Mode 107.....to get this effect.

You can play around with different settings to your heart's delight and make some beautiful country style background sets for your sites. Pick out colours of your choice to make coordinating tiles, for double or triple backgrounds.
Have Fun! and Email if you have any problems!
