This is basically a 'quickie' mini tutorial, as only a few steps are needed but I do warn you, however, that....most people given an inch...will take a mile...these can be very addictive. *s* Please feel free to experiment as this tute is only to give you ideas and directions. *s*
How to turn your photos into beautiful backgrounds....results vary depending on which photo or filters you use. I have put together a few of the ideas that I have used for a while now, something I have been meaning to do for a while now.
What you will need.
PSP 7 or 8
Download a 30 day trial
A photo of your choice....maybe a father in law that you wish to filterize (well why should the mothers- in-law cop it all the time?) *g* Try choosing pics with colours in them that you would like for your backgrounds.
The Basic steps for each photo is the same...
Open your choice of photo into your PSP workspace.
Make a copy...shift + d and then close down the original
Go to Image...Reduce Size...and make it about 200 x 200
Also, when I achieve a result that I like, I make a copy of it and save that copy to my backgrounds folder. Of course I also minimize it as I usually add to it later...to make even more backgrounds. *g* Then I go back to the original tile and continue experimenting or undoing it and starting from scratch again. You can of course do what I often do and that is to make several copies to work with.
1.
Feel free to use this one as a test if you wish....then maybe find some of your own to see what you can come up with too. This photo is one that I took at a party I held back in '97, in honour of my husband, who had just survived a heart attack and quadruple-by-pass. This poor guy on the hay bales...drank so much beer that night, he complained that he was so bloated and was feeling like a balloon. *g*
Go to Plugins....VM Natural...Plastic Starfish and play around with the settings until you get something you like...my settings for my first tile were these.
Once you have okayed that...go to Plugins...Simple...Pizza Slice Mirror. This is what I got from my photo.
Once I'd saved this tile to my folder, I then decided to do more to it. Next I went to Effects...Reflection Effects....Kaleidoscope...with these settings. It depends on what you have chosen as your base and the patterns that you like as to what settings you choose though.

Then Plugins....Simple....Quick Tile...then back again for Pizza Slice Mirror and back again for Zoom out and Flip. Which gave me this one.

Now going back to the basic photo, I used different settings in the Plastic Starfish....
Next went to Simple... 4 way Average
Simple...Pizza Slice Mirror
Simple....Quick Tile....which gave me the result on the lower left. Of course you don't have to stop there either...if you like the pattern but want different colours....try going to Colours....Adjust...Channel Mixer and experiment by sliding each of the levers backwards and forwards. *s*

Try also to lower the opacity to make less bold backgrounds and also try different layer modes to get more effects.
More tiles from experimenting further...I got the blue one by choosing Colours...Negative Image

I could have gone on forever making backgrounds to show you but I think that I have given you enough to go on for now. I look forward to seeing what you come up with and I hope that you enjoyed this quick and easy tute....well at least it is if you don't get addicted to it. Thanks for doing it. *s*
Have Fun! and Email if you have any problems!
